About PI59

The regeneration of a 1970s building into an open and modern 21st-century boutique office.

People, craftmanship, the environment: these are the guiding principles for the transformation of PI59. With care and consideration, the iconic 1970s building will be turned into a premium boutique office with a focus on well-being.

PI59 – named after Princess Irene – is one of the oldest buildings on the Zuidas, together with surrounding buildings such as the Parnascomplex (1975) and the Atrium (1972) – the latter was also transformed by G&S&. From the 70s up to now, the building has had various prestigious companies as tenants. In 2003, it was even used as a school for some time. However, now it’s back to its original use as an office.

PI59:
Modern, minimalist aesthetic meets humanity.

Silent witness
Thanks to its long history, PI59 has been a silent witness of the great transformation of the Zuidas into the buzzing financial heart of Amsterdam. And now the time has come for PI59 to get an update and become a premium 21st-century boutique office itself. Renowned for buildings that strike a balance between people and their environment, V8 Architects was the obvious choice for this redevelopment. Their goal was to maximize daylight and provide multi-directional views of its green surroundings.

A new refined look
Refined and subtly brutalist at once, PI59 combines understated minimalist elegance with the detailing and precision of true craftsmanship. While retaining the existing structure, the office, spread over six floors, has a size of approximately 17,500 m2. The building will have a completely new look, the new façade will mainly consist of large windows, with terrazzo inlaid with refined bronze accents. Because of its location in the peaceful green landscape, the connection with the surrounding area is significant.

People-focused working space
By preserving the existing structure and using building materials with low CO₂ emissions, PI59 is well ahead of the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement. An innovative power generation system adds to the sustainability of the building. After the transformation, PI59 will be ready for a new chapter, offering new companies a future-proof, healthy and people-focused working environment.
