About Bloom Merwede

The perfect balance between city life and peaceful living: that’s what Bloom in Merwede is all about. This new sustainable district close to Utrecht’s city center turns dreams into reality.

Merwede used to be an industrial area in the outskirts of Utrecht. However, thanks to the ambitious vision of G&S&, other developers and our fantastic partners, we managed to turn this area into a vibrant urban neighborhood. Bloom is part of the new urban district Merwede and is being developed by G&S&. Merwede is designed as a unique sustainable urban district: low-traffic, surrounded by water and lots of lush vegetation. And Utrecht’s bustling city center is just a short bike ride away!

A mix of everything
Living, recreational activities, urban amenities and sustainable green spaces.

A mix of everything:
Merwede will offer a wide range of amenities and around 6,000 homes, ranging from spacious family houses to urban apartments. Bloom Merwede consists of two parts: Bloom Park and Bloom Zuid, each offering 85 owner-occupied homes:
14 generous family houses with gardens, 130 compact city apartments, and 26 spacious apartments and penthouses. In addition to the owner-occupied homes, Bloom Merwede will also include 397 rental apartments, including 166 mid-market rental homes and 231 private sector rental homes.

The architecture combines robust and natural materials, creating a warm and contemporary appearance. Green courtyards, water gardens, playgrounds and rooftop gardens contribute to the health and well-being of residents.

Second-hand steel
The architects of Bloom, ANA architecten, Rijnboutt and INBO, envisioned Bloom as a healthy, sustainable and mixed city district providing an enormous quality of life. They designed all buildings to have their own typology, materials and colours. For various buildings, they used sustainable façade materials like second-hand steel, wood, recycled glass and used bricks.

Car-friendly, green & sustainable

Sustainable living
Bloom is all about sustainability and eco-friendly living. We’ve taken sustainability to the next level with this project, making Bloom Merwede one of the most sustainable projects in the Netherlands. All homes are connected to a collective ground-coupled heat exchanger, which generates renewable electricity. In addition, all homes are equipped with a balanced ventilation system and 50% of the rooftops are covered with solar panels. This way, the environmental impact is kept to a minimum.

Connecting people and animals
At Bloom, all living creatures – this means people and animals – live together in harmony. Unrestrained nature, green roofs and nest boxes tucked away in the facades, will ensure a healthy ecosystem where animals such as butterflies and hedgehogs can thrive.
