400 Beethovenstraat
About the project
A one-of-a-kind office building that stands out, in both its architecture and its amenities, symbolizing the message that ‘the sky is the limit’.
Inspiring well-being and communication
Thanks to its striking blue colour and atypical shape, 400 Beethoven is an office building that one can hardly miss. This 13-story high tower is designed to promote wellbeing and health: both for the people working in it, as for the occasional passer-by’s.
Conceived by Ben van Berkel, founder and principal architect of UN Studio, 400 Beethovenstraat is the perfect example of how a building can turn into a sculpture.
“400 Beethoven is the result of a unique partnership, born during challenging market circumstances where all involved had one goal: business and city development continuation.”
Flowing facades
The design for the volume of the building is aligned with the built environment planned for the Mahlerlaan and the Beethovenstraat. The facade has a formal appearance on the North and Northeast sides of the building and an informal character on the Southwest side. These two exterior styles smoothly flow into each other, resulting in a universal building without one distinct façade.
Iconic landmark
The additional curves and striking white lines provide 400 Beethoven with a dynamic feel and connect it to its environment. Both unique and approachable at once, this office tower acts as an iconic landmark in the Zuidas, enriching this area with yet another vibrant piece of architecture.
Tailor-made
400 Beethoven is the result of a fruitful collaboration between G&S&, the municipality of Amsterdam, UN Studio (architect) and the main tenant NautaDutilh. Both in the interior and the design of the exterior, the main wish of NautaDutilh was considered: creating a flexible and healthy working environment for the employees. As such, the building was practically tailor-made for NautaDutilh. Because of this close collaboration with all parties, 400 Beethoven was certified with BREEAM Excellent-quality mark for sustainability.
